Beating back the cyberbullying epidemic

by Michael Polzella

Name-calling, spreading false rumors, receiving unwanted images or threats: These behaviors and more are the types of bullying a majority of teens are subjected to online. Cyberbullying isn’t a new aspect to social media culture, and it’s hardly something that disappears, even among adults.

State and local governments have created laws and policies against bullying, and being educated on these can protect young victims.

There isn’t necessarily a cure-all for the nation’s bullying problem, but there is one simple and effective tool in promoting prevention: kindness. It decreases stress and anxiety, while improving relationships, social connection and happiness.
