In the Lone Star State, the 88th Legislature’s regular session commenced Jan. 10 with Republicans at the helm of both chambers. According to the Texas Tribune, legislators’ top priorities are as follows:
• Border Security: A shift in tactics is expected as border regions continue to be inundated with migrants.
• Public Education: School safety, followed by teacher retention and the ever-controversial school vouchers, is likely to top the agenda.
• Health Care: Three years into the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding Medicaid and reducing the coverage gap is top-of-mind for Texans.
• Property Tax: While relief is needed, from where and when remains for discussion.
