The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has estimated it will receive more applications than there are available H-1B visas this year.
Because of the increased demand, the USCIS has instituted a lottery system to aid the selection process. To be selected, employers must file on or about April 1, 2019, for employment beginning Oct. 1, 2019.
Employers can file H-1B applications no earlier than six months in advance of an anticipated start date. Last year, the USCIS received over 190,000 applications during the filing period.
