A few tips for floating furniture:
Mattresses: If mattress/boxspring was submerged in water, toss. Or the bed bugs may actually bite.
Upholstered: Fabric will absorb contaminants from flood waters, so unless it’s an antique or very valuable, its best to toss. If you can’t let go, leave it to the professionals.
Wood: If it didn’t sit in water for long, it’s possible to restore solid wood furniture. First, it needs to be dried completely — but not in the sun. Turpentine or ammonia with water will clean mildew spots. Wood restorers with lanolin will help restore to its original glory.
