While the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation was established in 2013, the heart of the foundation goes back decades. And it all began with First Lady Barbara Bush’s vision to improve literacy across the U.S.
For 30 years, she used her platform as a public figure to show that reading, writing and comprehension are human rights deserved by all. Her son Neil and his wife Maria founded the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to highlight the literacy crisis in Houston, the Bush family’s hometown.
