Satisfy your sweet tooth with Patra Lee’s 1848 Handcrafted Heritage Ice Cream

Getting its namesake from the year of independence for Edmond Albius, a 12-year-old slave on the island of Bourbon who invented a method to hand pollinate vanilla orchids, 1848 Handcrafted Heritage Ice Cream is more than one of the best ice cream brands in Houston. It’s a celebration of culture and an acknowledgment of the people whose accomplishments are too often overlooked in history classes.

Owner Rebecca Swindle creates seasonal menus inspired by Pan-African and Latin cultures, with each flavor having one of five custom bases, all proprietary recipes that have been passed down by the women in Swindle’s family.
