After first opening its doors in 1939, the Dew Drop Inn became a popular destination for the African American community in New Orleans, hosting rising stars like Ray Charles and Lil’ Richard. However, its doors closed in 1970, and the building fell into disrepair before being further damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Home Bank and Stonehenge Community Development partnered to fund the restoration of the historic Dew Drop Inn, which recently broke ground and kicked off construction. Developer Curtis Doucette Jr. is creating a boutique hotel featuring 17 rooms, a music venue, plus 10 permanent and 40 temporary jobs in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans.

“I’m excited about this project for so many reasons! It is bringing back an historic landmark that is a treasure to our city and to the black community,” said Doucette. “I’m confident this project will serve as a catalyst for a neighborhood on the cusp.”
