Beer Can House: Decorating with 50,000 beer cans

by Jan Schroder

Tired of mowing his grass, John Milkovisch began laying mosaic pieces, rocks and metal in concrete in his backyard in Houston in 1968. After the yard was covered, he turned to the exterior of his home.

He took beer cans he had been saving, flattened them and began hanging them from the home he shared with his ever-patient wife, Mary. For 18 years he continued this hobby until the home virtually disappeared behind the layers of cans.

After the couple died The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art purchased the home and opened the Beer Can House in 2008.
