Engineering a three-row SUV to be fun to drive is like teaching sumo wrestlers to perform “Swan Lake”; physics are working against you. Three-rows are too long and heavy to gobble corners like a Porsche.
And yet, Mazda’s engineers have pulled off another miracle. Showcasing their apparent mastery of suspension technology, they’ve created a 7-seater that handles like a compact sedan. Plus, with 250 horsepower and 28 MPG highway, the CX-9 gets up and goes without the typical three-row thirst.
Though smaller than most three-rows, the CX-9 is a top choice at ~$35k.
