In 2015, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park became one of only 25 UNESCO World Heritage sites in the U.S. and the only one located in Texas.
Just a few hours away from Houston, this park contains four missions built by the Spanish in the 1700s. Mission Concepción has frescos that have survived over 250 years, though Mission Espada holds the title of being the first and oldest mission in Texas.
Mission San Jose is the largest of the four and is over 300 years old, though it’s undergone extensive renovations. Mission San Juan rounds out the four.
