Public art initiative transforms busy underpass

by

Recent college graduates of the senior graphic design program at the University of Houston School of Art left an artistic legacy emblazoned on the gateway to their alma mater.

The in-class assignment was to create a compelling design for Cullen Boulevard under the Interstate 45 overpass, and it subsequently blossomed into a full-scale public art installation with the mentorship of the famed Houston aerosol artist GONZO247.

“Perspectives” covers 22 pillars along the road and showcases the history of the surrounding communities of Eastwood, the Third Ward and East Downtown Houston, also known as EaDo. See the transformation here.
