Houston optometrist warns about subtle dangers of makeup use

by

Dr. Sheekha Sethi of Cohen Eye Associates sees firsthand how makeup can affect eye health. Reactions to cosmetics can develop gradually over time, causing contact dermatitis, a specific reaction that happens when skin or the immune system comes into contact with something that aggravates it.

Microscopic bacteria that live on your face and cling to your mascara can build up and spread to your eyes, causing sties, pink eye or infections of the eyelid. Failure to remove mascara or eyeliner can cause buildup and put you at risk for more serious eye damage and infections. It could even cause blindness.
