Tradition is important – especially as we wrap up this most unconventional year – and Houston has some magnificent holiday stories to tell.
• In the 1920s-1930s, theater owner Will Horwitz hosted Christmas parties for thousands of underprivileged local children, giving many the only gifts they received all year.
• The HEB Thanksgiving Day Parade is smaller than Macy’s, but for Houstonians it’s just as grand and significant. Since 1949, the parade has welcomed the holiday season in true Texas fashion.
• Last year over Thanksgiving weekend, the city celebrated its 100th annual Mayor’s Holiday Celebration & Tree Lighting at City Hall, with hundreds in attendance.
