H-E-B opens new store after alcohol ordinance change

by Jan Schroder

The new H-E-B in The Heights has beer and wine on tap, plus a selection of 1,800 kinds of wine and 300 beer varieties.

But it took overturning an ordinance from 1912 to make this possible. The Heights was a dry neighborhood until residents voted to allow alcohol sales for off-premise consumption in 2016, paving the way for the new 92,000-square-foot store.

The store also has a tortilleria, Meal Simple kits, organic products, drive-through pharmacy and curbside pickup. You’ll also find a second location of The Roastery, a coffee shop and cafe.
