Last year, the Houston Chronicle relocated from its longtime historic downtown location.
During the move, restaurateur Anh Mai of Conservatory Underground Beer Garden & Food Hall and Prohibition Supperclub walked past the soon-to-be-demolished building and noticed its iconic neon sign. He was intrigued by the idea of showcasing it at the Conservatory.
Mai’s Rice Lofts neighbor – conveniently an editor at the paper – teed up a fruitful introduction to an employee of new property owner, Hines. The food hall fan facilitated the salvage, which was recently installed, creating a one-of-a-kind focal point for the 1913 theater.
