Fun fact: The only person to successfully cut the line at Austin’s Franklin Barbecue is former President Barack Obama (Kanye West was denied when he tried to do the same).

Our state’s barbecue is indeed world-famous, but you don’t have to travel to the hill country to try the state’s best brisket. CorkScrew BBQ and Tejas Chocolate Craftory – both within a 45-minute drive from downtown Houston – were listed in the top ten of Texas Monthly’s 50 Best Barbecue Joints, a bible for smoked meat connoisseurs. Another top ten member, Truth Barbeque, is opening inside the loop this fall.
